With It's Crystal Clear Water Teeming With Fish... Scuba Dive the Maldives

By Julius Corinthius

The Maldives is a nation consisting of over a 1,200 coral islands in the Indian Ocean. It's an exotic snorkeling and scuba diving paradise and one that's popular year round due to its temperate weather. The Maldives averages about thirty degrees Celsius all year or 86 degrees F.

Simply put, the Maldives provide an ideal snorkeling and scuba diving location teeming with exotic schools of fish of many species. Just to name a few, there are black and white snappers, humpback snappers, barracuda, unicornfish, yellowback fusiliers, trevally jacks.

Snorkeling and scuba diving in the Maldives is unparalleled the world over. The large variety and number of fish that exist here is awe inspiring. Scuba divers and snorkelers will never be bored, not for a moment, nor will anyone ever experience the exact dive experience twice! There are just too many things to see to discover on any one dive; you really need to consider going on several dives to get an appreciation of the awe inspiring life residing in these waters.

Seasoned snorkelers and divers recommend going when water visibility is at its best between January and March. Other times the water can be a bit murky. Diving novices can charter boats in Male, the Maldives capital city. Remote locations are reserved for experienced divers.

Your Maldives resort can make recommendations and advise you on ideal diving and snorkeling locales. You'll have access to only a small number of dive and snorkeling locations if you stay around your resort. To avail yourself to varied dive locations, consider making reservations on a liveaboard. A liveaboard is a boat designed for people who want to live onboard a dive boat that travels to various places specifically for scuba diving.

Liveaboards can go to places few people will ever see, like Baa Atoll. The waters around Baa Atoll boasts an amazing diving and snorkeling environ. The neighboring islands are deserted and are undeveloped and unspoiled. This is indeed a scuba divers heaven where beautiful diving can be experienced and remembered.

Other secluded spots include Felidhu and Ari atolls where sharks and manta rays can be found. Remember, most remote locations require experienced divers and are reserved for thrill-seekers only!

Measures 80 kilometers in length, Ari Atoll is one of the largest atolls in the Maldives. Known for its well developed tourist spaces, it possesses a world class scuba diving and snorkeling environment that really should not be missed. The whale shark lives in the waters just off the northern shore of Ari Atoll. The best way to experience these massive creatures is by scuba diving or snorkeling.

I've mentioned just a few snippets of places to scuba dive or snorkel while visiting the Maldives. Scuba diving and snorkeling in the Maldives is a truly unforgettable event. If you consider yourself an accomplished snorkeler, then next time try scuba Maldives style! Once you've scuba dived or snorkeled in the Maldives, you'll never want to do it anywhere else. - 31860

Scuba Diving Mask: Find the Best Mask for the Money

By Bryan R. Richardson

One way to prepare a scuba diving mask to prevent fogging is to simply use a few drops of baby shampoo rubbed inside the lens. This is just as effective as as any commercial preparations intended for this purpose, and it is also very inexpensive to use. The time honored tradition to prevent masks from fogging is to spit inside of them, then rub the spit into the lens. This is being discouraged by many instructors, as it can promote black mold growing inside the lens.

Among the first things to invest in when purchasing scuba gear is a dive mask. Although it is possible to purchase masks from many retailers, this is not the product to cheap out on. Don't purchase an inferior mask, thinking that it will be adequate for your needs, even if you are a beginner diver. Nothing is further from the truth. A mask made with safety glass lenses is better than one made with plastic lenses.

The right scuba diving mask will make or break a dive. There is nothing is more annoying than having a mask that does not fit properly, and fogs up or leaks. Everything money you spent on a dream diving vacation will seem wasted if you are having issues with this most basic piece of gear. One way to check if a mask fits you properly is to put your mask on loosely, then lean forward and inhale. This should create enough suction to hold your mask in place. If it slips, try a different style of mask.

If you want to purchase a scuba diving mask that has longevity for use, purchase a good quality mask and take the time to care for it optimally. Don't skimp on your mask purchase, it is just as important or more so than any other piece of diving equipment. A cheap mask that leaks and fogs up is sure to put a damper on your dive trip. Another tip is to always inspect every piece of dive equipment with a fine-tooth comb before you begin packing for your trip. Don't let something as simple as a broken strap on your mask keep you from having a great trip.

When you are diving, you need to protect your eyes from the irritation of salt water, and scuba diving masks are designed just for that purpose. If you are new to diving and wear glasses, you may wonder how you will ever manage without them. The good news is that you don't have to. You can buy masks with prescription lenses that will enable you to see just as well under the water as on the surface.

There are some basic tips that you need to care for your scuba diving mask. You should always store your mask in its original hard plastic case, lenses down. This will keep your mask intact if it is inadvertently dropped, and help to keep it from getting scratched. As well, storing your mask in its proper case helps to keep the silcone skirt that fits around the face from deteriorating from being exposed to the sun. Often, masks come with a protective coating that should be removed prior to use. This is easily accomplished with a soft cloth and a non-gel type toothpaste. Don't use this on plastic lenses, and don't use a toothpaste that is highly abrasive. Test this on a small area of the lens before trying it on the entire lens surface. Another tip is to take the time to always rinse your mask in fresh water after diving.

One area not to compromise on diving equipment is on your mask and fins. A scuba diving mask composed of high-quality components keeps water out and prevents fogging. As for fins, a good pair of fins will keep your legs from becoming quickly tired. For the mask style that keeps out leaks the best, choose a goggle type with separate lenses for each eye, and also has a silicone skirt to keep out any water. When choosing fins, opt for a closed heel design if you plan on dives of any significant lengths of time. - 31860

Beginners Guide To Scuba Diving Gear

By Brett Camron

For scuba diving in any depth of water there is a must for specific scuba diving gear that you will need to have. Scuba diving equipment is a divers best friend besides the knowledge you will need to have to perform successful dives with no casualties.

Scuba diving masks let you see under the depths of the ocean water, because the deeper you go the darker it gets, and the higher pressure it gets. So when you are shopping for a scuba diving mask do not try and go the easy route and buy the cheapest one that you can find.

Next piece of gear that you must have is a BC, to divers known as a buoyancy compensator. A BC provides many essentials when it comes to diving and there are many types. They help the diver go the direction he or she wants to go, meaning up, down, or neutral. Bouyancy compensators also interact with the dive gauges and regulators.

Dive suits are also a necessity no matter where you are diving at, because even if you are scuba diving in Florida the water will get colder as you get deeper. Scuba diving suits also provide protection from sharp objects as you do not want to get a cut while diving in the water as it could attract sharks.

Scuba tanks are the life of your dive, and they come in two different main types, which are aluminum and steel. Most tanks are rented from scuba shops, as you will need a diving license to get them filled with oxygen, and also to rent them.

Swim fins, also known as flippers will also be needed for any diver. One cannot expect good thrust in the water with their feet alone, this is why the long runner swim fins are needed to aid the diver to move through the water efficiently.

A must for the diver is a diving computer, often made into specialized watches that are made to withstand very high pressures. Diving computers will tell you everything that you need to know such as ascending rates, temperature of water, water pressure, oxygen left in tank, decompression, and how deep you are in the water along with many other things you will need to know.

Dive flags, reels and ropes, gloves, knives, weight belts, gauges, belts and bags are also necessities that the scuba diver will need. Along with all of these tools the diver will also need to be efficiently trained through either a diving school or accredited diving courses. - 31860
